Drives usually
have a letter to represent them in the operating system.

In DOS and
Windows PC’s the floppy drives have the letter A, or if there are two, the
letters A and B
|

Hard Drives, CD
ROMS Drives and other devices start with the letter C and go up: C, D, E,
etc.

Each different
drive has its own letter. The main or boot Hard Drive usually has the letter
C
|
|
However one
physical device or drive may be separated into several logical devices each
of which can have a letter
|
|
For example one
physical drive can be partitioned into several logical drives.
