Many Internet providers (ISP's) advertise much higher speed than they actually provide.  The number they advertise should be "up to ------- bps".  Furthermore there is confusion between numbers given per second and numbers per minute.  In addition there is usually a large difference in speed between what you can bring to your computer from the web (download speed) and what you can send, like uploading photos by email or other things (upload speed).
