The site of The Ark was the Mt. Tremper
Lutheran Camp, a summer camp and weekend retreat owned by the Lutheran Church. The main
building was three stories with 28 rooms and double stone walls over 2 feet thick. It was
built during the depression by Catholic Monks. There were 23 buildings on the grounds, a
swimming pool, an outdoor basketball recreation area, and over 40 acres of woods to get
lost in. It was right on the side of Mt. Tremper, a mountain in the Catskills over 3400
feet high. There was a river in front which was great for tubing in the summer. Woodstock
N.Y. with all the famous musicians and artists was just 10 miles away, and NYC was only 2
hours away by car or bus.
